We're thrilled to share that girls flag football is now part of our high school athletic programs! After the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) unanimously voted to make flag football an official sport for female athletes, we worked closely with our high school athletic directors to get everything ready for this school year. Now, our female athletes can join the huddle, blitz, and sling the football in competitive play.
The excitement is palpable—our students are buzzing with energy, ready to showcase their speed, agility, and passion on the field. This new sport has also opened up some amazing opportunities. For example, our Don Lugo players were able to attend a flag football clinic hosted by the Los Angeles Rams to gear up for the season!
Coaches, students, and fans alike are optimistic about the future, hoping to build on the lessons we learn and create a strong foundation for future generations to enjoy this rapidly growing sport.
Thirteen years after we opened the first school in The Preserve area of Chino, we’re excited to break ground on a new 12-acre, $100 million school ($39 million was land purchase), which we plan to open for the 2024-25 school year. Around 50 of us, including Superintendent Norm Enfield and my fellow board members Andrew Cruz, and Don Bridge, attended the groundbreaking ceremony. This new school, currently called Preserve School II, will accommodate 1,200 students and feature modern facilities like science labs, a multipurpose room, and keyless entry. The school will operate on a year-round schedule, much like the Cal Aero Preserve Academy, which has now outgrown its capacity.
"Two Thousand Twenty-Four has been a record-breaking year for Chino Valley Unified School District (CVUSD) and I am extremely proud of the success students and staff have enjoyed this school year.
Following its February 2024 recognition for being one of three large school districts in California that accomplished the largest improvement in its English Language Arts score, CVUSD was identified as a Model PLC District by Solution Tree, a leading global provider of educational strategies. As one of only two California school districts to be awarded the global distinction, and the only school district honored coming out of the pandemic, the award highlights the successful implementation of the Professional Learning Communities (PLC) at Work® process and how the District’s strategies have contributed in the improved achievement of our students."
I'm thrilled to celebrate the incredible achievement of the Chino Valley Unified School District staff for being recognized as a Model PLC at Work School District by Solution Tree! It's a huge honor, especially since CVUSD is not only one of just two California school districts ever to receive this global distinction but also the only district to be recognized in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic.
Earning such a prestigious honor, which only 37 school districts worldwide have achieved, required us to go through a rigorous application process. Our administrators presented compelling evidence of consistent data showing improvements in student achievement scores over the past three years and demonstrated how PLC methods have become deeply embedded in our district's culture and daily practices.
This recognition truly reflects the hard work and dedication of everyone in our district.
